INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

1. SCOPE

1.1 Topics

Kenosis magazine is a publication of Universidad Católica de Oriente, the program of Education, Social Communication, Gerontology, Psychology, Law, Theology and Humanities are attached to it. It is published every six months and publishes original articles. It covers topics to help the understanding and deepening of our sense of humanity and the relationship that exists between faith and reason. The contents of the magazine are aimed at professionals, students, academics, researchers and especially students of theology, sociology and the humanities, and readers interested in this field of research

1.2 Modalities of articles.

a. Article of scientific and technological research: A document that presents, in detail, the original results of research projects. The structure generally used contains four important parts: introduction, methodology, results and conclusions.

b. Reflection article: Document that presents research results from an analytical, interpretative or critical perspective of the author, on a specific topic, appealing to original sources.

c. Review article: Document resulting of a research in which published or unpublished research findings are analyzed, systematized and integrated, on a field of science or technology, in order to give an account of the advances and development trends. It is characterized by presenting a careful literature review of at least 50 references[1].

1.3 Order of the text.

Manuscripts should be a maximum of 25 pages in Word, letter size, font Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced, setting page margins will be 3 inches on all sides.

For scientific research results, the manuscript should include the following sequence of sections: title, abstract, abstract, keywords, introduction, methodology, results and discussion, conclusions and references.

In the case of reflection items: title, abstract, abstract, keywords, introduction, body, conclusions and references.

The following provides some general guidelines that will serve as reference to the authors:

Title: In Spanish and English. It should be short and illustrative, as an indication it is recommended not to exceed 15 words and it should not contain formulas, strange characters and acronyms.

Authors: Full names. These will go in order according to the contribution to research or the preparation of the manuscript. In footnote on page and superscript numbers shall be indicated: last academic degree, position, dependency (research group, if applicable), institution, municipality, department or region, country, postal address and email address.

Keywords: Five (5) key words in Spanish and English at the end of the summary or abstract, respectively. It is recommended to use the thesaurus of the respective areas.

Summary: It is presented in a paragraph of up to 250 words. It must include the objective, scope, methods and findings. Do not use textual references or citations. Keywords: Five (5) key words in

1.4  Types of citations

APA style, sixth edition will be used for citations and references.

• Short   textual quotations:  If the quotations comprise fewer than 40 words, incorporate into text and use double quotation marks to indicate them. The source should be cited completely. Eg : Author, year, and page number as well as a complete reference, which is  included at the end, on the list of references.
• Long textual quotations:  if the quotations comprise 40 or more words, display it in a freestanding block of text and omit the quotation marks. The source has to be cited completely. Eg:  Author, year and page number. The complete reference is placed at the end, on the list of references.
• Indirect quotations:  Author’s surname followed by year of publication in parentheses: Acosta (2010); (Arbeláez, 2010); (Martínez & Díaz, 2010).

When a work has three, four or five authors, cite all authors the first time the reference occurs; in subsequent citations, include only the surname of the first author followed by  et al. (not italicized and with a period after al) and the year if it is the first citation of the reference within a paragraph. Eg:  (Valencia et al., 2010).

When a work has six or more authors, cite only the surname of the first author followed by et al. from the first time it occurs.

If a cited author in the work has more than a publication and they coincide in the same year, the references should be placed in alphabetical order. Example:  Arbeláez (2010a), Arbeláez (2010b). References must coincide with the sequence. Footnotes will be used just to make clarifications or to provide additional information. They should not be used in references.

1.5 List of references.

• References should be placed at the end of the work.
• They should be in alphabetical order.
• Work from the same author should be ordered chronologically
• Text indenting and 1.5 spacing.

Tables. Tables should be presented on separate sheets and should be cited in the text. They will be identified with Arabic numerals (Table 1.2 etc..) And they will have a descriptive heading. The abbreviations will be explained at the bottom of the table.

Figures and graphs. They will be presented on separate sheets. Figures are identified with Arabic numbers (Fig. 1, 2, ... etc.). Avoid using colored backgrounds or gray. Use different types of lines and symbols on figures with multiple lines. The legends of the X and Y axes must be legible. Only a figure or table per page. The text of the figure is written to the bottom of this.

Photographs. They must be the original or initial resolution of at least 350 dpi (350 ppi) jpg format.

Using abbreviations. Scientific names of species should be written in italics, hereafter abbreviated when possible (eg: Solanum tuberosum / s. Tuberosum). Use the metric system for all measurements and abbreviations for common units of measure: grams (g), milligram (mg), meter (m), etc. We recommend using decimals instead of fractions, except in equations. The decimal places are separated by commas and the thousands by points. No written with periods, commas or blanks those numbers that refer to years, pages, lines, urban road portals, numbers of legal articles, decrees, etc.

1. 1.      PUBLICATION POLICY

The process of receiving, refereeing and publication of articles is organized as follows:

• The author should send an e-mail directly to [email protected] with the article, expressing interest to publish in the Journal.
• Attached to the article, you must send a letter to the editor of the journal in which the author guarantees the originality of his/her article, which has not been published in other media and it is not postulated simultaneously in other journals, as well as the assignment of all economic rights to the Kenosis journal, who may publish it in physical or electronic format.
• Once received, it will be submitted to one or more referees or peer reviewers who issue their concept depending on evaluation criteria. There will be an arbitration process "double blind". This concept will be communicated to the author of the article. In case of difference of opinion of the arbitrators, we will consider sending the article to a third arbitrator to issue a final concept and the publisher will make a decision about the publication.
• Once the article is accepted, it shall be taken on the style correction, editing and publishing.
• The content is full responsibility of the authors.
• Sending email articles to the Journal does not imply publication.
• The reception, arbitration and publication of the articles do not involve compensation.
